Pulsed Dye

What is the pulsed dye laser?

The pulsed dye laser is a single wavelength of light (585 nm) that reduces unwanted redness. It is used to treat scars and stretch marks that are red in color. The laser passes through the skin and is preferentially absorbed by the tiny blood vessels that make them pink or red.

What can I expect with a treatment?

Most patients describe the treatment as cold, mildly sting, tolerable. Your eyes will be protected with goggles during the procedure, and you will be fully awake. During the treatment, you will feel cold air blow on your skin while the laser pulses. Following your treatment, the circular dime-sized laser pulses will appear purple in color. If desired, makeup may be applied. Over the next 2 weeks, the purple color fades, taking the unwanted redness with it. Scabbing may occur though is uncommon.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments depends on the type of condition being treated. Red scars and stretch marks generally need 1-3 treatments spaced at least 4 weeks apart.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

We suggest avoiding any sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to each treatment. If the area being treated is tan, we will need likely need to reschedule your treatment for your safety. If possible, come into the office without any makeup or other agents on your skin. If having treatments on your face, avoid using alcohol based hair products (such as gel, mousse, or hairspray) prior to the treatment.

What is the cost?

The cost depends on the size of the area being treated, though ranges from $400.00 - 650.00 per treatment. A specific fee quote will be provided during your consultation.
