SkinPen is a micro-needling device. Any skin type can be safely treated.
The SkinPen treats textural issues such as acne scars, fine lines, unwanted pigmentation, wrinkles, stretch marks, and surgical scars. It can be safely used on all skin types.
Fine lines, mild sun damage, and textural concerns usually need 5-6 treatments. Deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, and/or scars may need up to 10 treatments.
Every 4 to 6 weeks
The healing following each treatment varies somewhat depending on your skin type and the condition being treated. For most patients, some redness and slight swelling is common for the first 2 days. During the first 48 hours after each treatment, we will provide you with a healing serum to apply to your skin.
During the first 48hours, the pores to the skin will be open. Because of this, care must be taken regarding what is applied to your skin. Avoid sunscreen, makeup, & any other topical creams/lotions for 48 hours.
If possible, come into the office without any makeup or other products on your skin. Please avoid the use of skin care products with active ingredients such as salicylic acids, retinoids, hydroquinone, benzol peroxides, or glycolic/malic acids for 1-2 days prior to your treatment. It is best to avoid these for 3-4 days after your treatment as well. Sun protection is advised for 1 week before and after each treatment.
A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the skin for 30 minutes before the procedure which makes the treatment tolerable. Tylenol can be taken prior to or immediately after procedure. An ice pack will be given and is recommended to help with swelling and discomfort after treatment.
Typically, you will begin to see results after the 2rd or 3rd treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur 4 months after your full treatment series. As with any treatment that stimulates collagen production, the results are variable and depend upon the individual’s skin ability to make collagen.
